Weniger Honored by Office of Sponsored Programs

On Friday, October 6, 2017 Gerald Weniger, assistant professor and director of the physician assistant program, was one of seven recipients of a 2017 Research & Scholarship Outstanding Faculty Award from the JMU Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP).  This was the 2nd annual Recognition Reception hosted by OSP to honor faculty and staff who are involved in the pursuit of external (grant) funding.  Mr. Weniger was nominated for his award by Dr. Özlem Ersin, academic unit head for the Department of Health Professions and Associate Dean for the College of Health & Behavioral Studies.  The Recognition Reception opened with remarks from JMU’s new Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Heather Coltman.  Professor Weniger’s award was specifically “in recognition of excellence in community partnership” for the $866,827 that he was awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration for the grant titled ”Student-Engaged Medical Clinic” (SEMC).  The SEMC establishes a formal collaboration between the JMU physician assistant program and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic.  More information can be found here:  http://www.healthsci.jmu.edu/PA/freeclinic.html
